Frequently Asked Questions

What exactly is a Picture Style Recipe?

Our recipes are custom-engineered .pf3 profile files that you load directly into your Canon camera.

They alter the camera's internal color science, contrast, and tone curves to emulate classic film stocks, allowing you to get beautiful, finished looks Straight Out Of Camera (SOOC) without needing to edit your photos later.

Are these the same as Lightroom presets?

No. Lightroom presets are applied to your photos after you have taken them, using editing software on your computer or phone.

Our Picture Styles are applied in-camera at the exact moment you press the shutter, permanently baking the look into your JPEG files.

What cameras are these compatible with?

Our recipes are engineered for any Canon camera that supports the Picture Style architecture and features "User Defined" slots. If your camera allows you to select custom styles, it is compatible with these .pf3 files.

In short: virtually all Canon RF and EF-M mirrorless cameras are supported, along with most EOS DSLRs. The list below highlights popular models, but if your camera has "User Defined" Picture Style slots, it will work.

Supported Series Include:

  • EOS R-Series: All mirrorless models — R1, R3, R5, R5 II, R6, R6 Mark II, R6 Mark III, R7, R8, R10, R50, R50 V, R100
  • EOS M-Series: All mirrorless models — M, M2, M3, M5, M6, M6 Mark II, M10, M50, M50 Mark II, M100, M200
  • EOS DSLRs: 5D Series, 6D Series, 7D Series, 90D, 80D, Rebel series (T7, T8i), and most other Rebel/EOS xxxD models
  • PowerShot: High-end compacts such as the G7X Mark III or G5X Mark II

To check compatibility, open your camera's "Picture Style" menu. If you see slots labeled "User Def. 1, 2, or 3," your camera is ready to accept these profiles.

For Canon DSLR and Mirrorless cameras (M and RF), you will need Canon's EOS Utility software. For PowerShot cameras, you will need Canon's Picture Style File Registration Tool.

How do I install these on my Canon camera?

Installation depends on your camera type — DSLR and mirrorless cameras use Canon's EOS Utility, while PowerShot cameras use Canon's Picture Style File Registration Tool.

For DSLR & Mirrorless Cameras (EOS Utility)

  1. Connect your camera to your computer via USB.
  2. Open Canon's EOS Utility and navigate to Camera Settings.
  3. Select Register Picture Style File.
  4. Browse for your downloaded .pf3 file and save it to one of your camera's custom User Def. slots.

For PowerShot Cameras (Picture Style File Registration Tool)

  1. Connect your camera to your computer via USB.
  2. Open Canon's Picture Style File Registration Tool.
  3. Select your downloaded .pf3 file and register it to one of your camera's custom style slots, following the on-screen prompts.

Complete step-by-step installation instructions are included in the PDF with every purchase.

Do these work with RAW files?

Picture Styles are designed specifically to process JPEG images directly in your camera.

While your camera will tag your RAW files with the Picture Style metadata, third-party software like Lightroom will not apply the look. If you shoot RAW, you must use Canon's Digital Photo Professional (DPP) software on your computer to see and export the applied recipe.

Do I have to buy the bundled collections?

Not at all. While our collections offer a bundle discount ($14 for a base style plus its Filmic variant), every style is available to purchase individually for $8 so you can pick exactly the looks you want.
